Detectives are appealing for information following an armed robbery at the Cable SPAR store in Whitehead last night (Wednesday).

At around 10pm, it was reported that two males, one carrying a baseball bat, entered the service station and threatened a female member of staff.

The males made off on foot with a sum of money and a quantity of cigarettes. The member of staff was not injured during the incident.

One of the youths is described as being of heavy build, wearing dark clothing and a balaclava. The second male is described as being of medium build, wearing a dark top, light coloured track bottoms, black hat and a black scarf covering his face.

The incident is the second in recent days after an armed robbery at a newsagents in the Islandmagee Road area on Tuesday.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area to contact them at Newtownabbey CID on the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
