Carrickfergus town centre post office is to close next month for eight days to facilitate an upgrade scheme.
The DeCourcy Centre outlet is being changed to a new main style branch as part of a £1.6 million Post Office investment in the province.
The aim, the company states, is to create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers that will include longer opening hours.
The new-look post office is scheduled to open on Saturday, March 22 at 1.00pm - it will close for refurbishment on Thursday, March 13 at 5.30 pm.
East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson MP has welcomed Carrick’s inclusion in the programme, which UK-wide will see around 6,000 branches (about half the Post Office network) converting to the new style.
Mr Wilson said: “The post office in the DeCourcy Centre will now be refurbished and will have longer opening hours. This is good news for post office users in Carrickfergus who will now be able to access a post office all day Saturday and for an extra hour Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
“As one of those who supported the move of the post office into the centre of Carrickfergus to try and increase the footfall and make it more convenient for customers, I am pleased that now, not only has the move taken place but even better facilities will be available to customers and I look forward to its opening on 22 March 2014.”
Once work is completed, the new opening hours will be: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:30am – 6.00pm; Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 9:00am – 5.30pm; Sunday, closed.
During the temporary closure, Post Office is drawing attention to the following branches: Sunnylands post office, Bridewell Drive, Carrickfergus and Carnmoney post office, Beverly Shopping Centre, Beverly Road, Newtownabbey.
