Islandmagee girl Katy Tweed will be centre stage at Belfast’s MAC theatre next month for a production of “Alice in Wonderland Jnr”.

The 16-year-old will be starring in the lead role as the “Cheshire Cat” in Belfast School of Performing Art’s show which will take place on Saturday February 22.

Katy, a pupil of Larne Grammar School will be performing to an audience of 700 people.

Katy has been involved with musical theatre from a very young age. She played the principal role of “Maureen” in “Honk!” as well as “Mrs Pugh” in “Annie” at Belfast’s Grand Opera House.

Last August, Katy performed in the Belfast School of Performing Art’s sell-out production of “Les Miserables” in the MAC theatre, Belfast playing the role of a ‘lovely lady’. She hopes to participate in the drama school’s upcoming production of “Miss Saigon” this summer.

She travels from Islandmagee every Saturday to BSPA on the Cregagh Road, in Belfast for a three-hour class and is believed to enjoy every minute of performing.

Hannah McVeigh, Belfast manager and marketing manager, said: “Katy has a strong talent that is evident in her performances and is a treat to watch.”

Also taking part will be Larne BSPA pupils Tait Brennan and Sam Johnston, both aged eight, who will also be performing in the show as “Wonderland” characters.

Tait will be performing her first solo performance with the school as well as accompanying the “Caterpillar” in her performance. Sam has recently performed in “A Christmas Carol” in the Grand Opera House, Belfast, in which he was part of the child cast in November.

Tickets to see the children’s performances can be purchased online at www.themaclive.com
