Carrick rock band Mean Bone and Carrick bikers club the Quay Vipers MCC are teaming up to take part in a two day ride-out and gig-a-thon around Northern Ireland in aid of Barnardo’s NI.

The event will see East Antrim MLA and MP Sammy Wilson - himself a biking enthusiast - start more than 30 bikers off from the grounds of Stormont on their way to Derry/Londonderry for a fundraising event at the Dupont Club in the city with Mean Bone as the headline act followed by a custom bike show on the city’s walls the following day.

Christopher Shaw, Mean Bone drummer, said: “We’re young guys and we know how hard it can be for other young people, so this is something we really wanted to do.

“We know the difference Barnardo’s can make to children and young people and we thought we could use the band to help raise funds while doing something we love.”

Stevie Shaw of Quay Vipers MCC added: “We got on board with Mean Bone to organise this ride-out and gig-a-thon because Barnardo’s is such a worthy cause and we knew together we could help make a real difference.”

Karen Kerr, Barnardo’s NI fundraiser said: “We are delighted that Mean Bone and the Quay Vipers MCC have teamed up to create such a unique event which will cover the length and breadth of Northern Ireland and highlight the range of work Barnardo’s does.

“It is also really encouraging to see young people like the guys in Mean Bone doing something positive for other young people who are not in such fortunate positions as themselves.”

The Mean Bone and Quay Viper MCC ride-out and gig-a-thon will set off from the grounds of Stormont on Friday July 25, at 11.00 am arriving in Derry/Londonderry later that evening followed by gig and fundraising event at the Dupont Club.
