Greenisland Football Club’s connections have been underlined as Northern Ireland bid for Euro 2016 glory.

At the annual general meeting of Greenisland Regeneration Group, board members voiced their support for Jonny Evans, Corry Evans and Craig Cathcart, who are part of Michael O’Neil’s squad in France.

Councillor Andrew Wilson, the re-elected chair of the group, said: “This is a really exciting time for the people of Greenisland and it is a true credit to the achievements of Greenisland Football Club for producing skilled players that are now competing for our country.”

The Greenisland Regeneration Group was formed following the launch of the Greenisland Development Framework in March 2015 with the purpose of driving forward project initiatives identified within the plan.

It has been working in partnership with Mid and East Antrim Council to develop proposals including a sports hub at the football club site, community hub at Glassillan and a greenway regeneration project.

Over the past year the group has successfully attracted government funding for a shop front improvement project and has been working closely with council to improve the allotment site.
