Action needed now to cut speed limit

Ulster Unionist councillor Mark McKinty has issued a strong and stark call to action following a fatal traffic accident in Ballycarry.

Cllr McKinty said:“For a number of years, speeding in the village of Ballycarry has been a major concern to local residents.

“At meetings, on the doorsteps, and in personal conversations, examples of fast cars through the village are generally the first points to be raised.

“I and other community representatives have tirelessly raised the problem at any opportunity and at all levels. Disappointingly, it has either fallen on deaf ears or has not been taken seriously.

“Only a number of weeks ago, the village was the scene of a tragic accident.

“The time to act is now. No more talking. No more deferrals. Action must be taken before anyone else is injured or killed.

Police, TransportNI, and all other stakeholders must face their responsibilities. Again I say: the time to act is now.”

Ballycarry is reeling from the death of 25-year-old motorcyclist earlier this month.

Speaking at the time, Mr. McKinty said: “This has been a real shock for the close-knit community of Ballycarry.”
