Project seeks information on Carrickfergus during WWI

An initiative examining Carrickfergus during the early part of the 20th century is being run by Carrickfergus Community Forum.

Carrick Somme 100 is a project that is being put together to highlight what the town was like during the First World War.

Anyone who has information regarding important sites during the period are asked to get in touch.

Of particular interest to the project are the Gospel Hall at Scotch Quarter and the local Catholic Church.

A substantial about of information regarding Carrickfergus Castle and the Barn Mill has already been obtained.

“If you know of an individual service, man or woman or a place that is worthy of note, please contact us at Carrickfergus Community Forum by ringing 02893359777,” say organisers.

The Forum is aiming to produce a leaflet and displays for the area. There are also hopes that the project can be used in local schools.
