Mr. Hilditch issued a statement after receiving a response following his representation to the Chief Constable.

Mr. Hilditch said: “Having outlined my support of back office officers being put on the street and acknowledged my understanding of current budgetary restraints, I am disappointed that due to the unique policing challenges in Carrickfergus, that as a confidence measure for the public, the enquiry office could have remained operational for a period, even staffed by civilian staff.”

A letter issued by Assistant Chief Constable Alan Todd pointed out that the station remains “an operational police station” and a base for the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Carrick. He also stated that the decision was based on public use.
