Independent councillor Jim Brown has described the closure of the enquiry desk at Carrick police station as “stunning but not surprising news”.
In a post on social media, he said: “I was horrified to learn that from Monday April 3, the Carrickfergus Police Station will close. This is a real blow to the citizens of the Borough.
“During a time of escalating incidents of lawlessness in our town, the last thing we need is the absence of a identifiable location for the reporting of crime.
“Over the years, we have witnessed the gradual retreat of services including the closures of Sunnylands and Greenisland posts along with Whitehead. The conditions have not improved.”
