The winning entrant will go on to represent the province in the Kinsale Chowder Cook Off 2017.

A family-run, ‘pop-up’ enterprise, Bistro Nights Whitehead offers a range of themed dining experiences, from its French evening to the upcoming Mexican Fiesta in Coastal Coffee, Whitehead, on June 4.

Having launched in January 2016, owners are planning to expand the business into other areas such as Larne and will be announcing a new venue in the near future.

They will also be launching Whitehead Cookery School, giving local people a “leg up” into the industry or simply assisting them in refining cookery skills at home.

Bistro Nights Whitehead applied to enter the Ulster Chowder Championships as part of the maritime festival and were selected to represent County Antrim.

Joni said: “I’m proud to be selected to represent County Antrim and I expect the competition to be tough, especially given the high quality level of entrants.

“My wife would be very happy if I won and was able to take her to Cork, her mother’s birthplace, and if successful in that round, onto Rhode Island in America as a guest chef.  Obviously it’s a great opportunity for Bistro Nights Whitehead to showcase our chowder on the channel, Irish TV.”

Bistro Nights Whitehead is also raising money for Crosskennan Animal Sanctuary by abseiling down Gleno Waterfall on Saturday, June 11.
