'˜Treehouse' takes Woodburn Forest campaign to new heights

A campaign opposing the Woodburn Forest drill project has reached new heights with the construction of a '˜treehouse' at the site.

The viewing platform appeared in the woods in recent weeks as InfraStrata’s exploratory drilling operation continues.

Located directly beside the wellpad’s boundary wall, the platform was constructed by a local resident, who did not wish to be named.

“It’s a disgrace what’s going on here,” the resident told the Times. Referring to the Belfast Water Act 1899, he added: “People were evicted from this forest over 100 years ago because they weren’t even allowed to build a house in the water catchment, and now all of a sudden this is happening.

“We built [the platform] because we thought we needed a way to see into the site and keep an eye on what’s going on.

“It’s a 24-hour thing between me and a few mates; day or night there’ll always be somebody up here.”

Meanwhile, fellow protestors are maintaining a presence next to the forest’s Paisley Road entrance.
