Friendship cafe is open to '˜whole community'

Residents of the local community are being encouraged to support a volunteer-run initiative at Carrickfergus Methodist Church.

The Friendship Centre and Restaurant has been up and running for over 30 years at the Albert Road church.

The restaurant is run by volunteers from the congregation, many of whom have either worked in the catering trade professionally or have many years experience in church catering.

The centre serves tea and coffee, along with a selection of home made lunches and home bakes every Tuesday and Thursday from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Nellie McIlheron from Carrick Methodist explained: “The restaurant is not just for church members but is open to the whole community, for people of all ages.”

Meanwhile, the church has a packed programme of summer activities following a two-week break in July.

The Young at Heart group is continuing to meet on Thursday afternoons from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.

Carrick Methodist will also be holding a summer sequence dance on August 20 from 8-11pm.
