Eden allotments site gets Green Flag award

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is celebrating success after collecting three Green Flag Awards for its high standards in recreational green areas.

Eden Allotment Gardens, Carrickfergus; Carnfunnock Country Park, Larne and the Ecos Nature Park, Ballymena were all awarded the environmental accolade.

It brings the total number of Green Flag accredited spaces in the borough to seven.

The Green Flag Award scheme is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK and recognises excellence in the management of public spaces.

Applications are judged against a number of key criteria: a welcoming place; healthy, safe and secure; clean and well maintained; sustainability; conservation and heritage; community involvement, and marketing and management.

The awards ceremony took place on Thursday, July 21 at the Palace Demesne in Armagh.
