The Carrickfergus branch of the Ulster Defence Regiment Association held a service at the town’s new UDR black granite memorial at the Marine Gardens, in Joymount, on Saturday morning, to commemorate the formation of the UDR on April 1 1970.

A large turn-out of UDR Association members took part in the service conducted by padre Pastor Sam Grant.

They were joined by Carrick’s Royal British Legion chairman Edward McKnight to remember the UDR fallen.

The event was organised by Stephen Weir, chairman, of Carrickfergus UDR Association.
