Of the 13 who were eligible to apply, six did not due to the “tight time frame” and the requirement that works had to be completed by March 31.

Members of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Economic Growth and Tourism Committee heard that some of the properties had already undergone improvements prior to the scheme and there was no requirement for additional works. Councillors also heard that Greenisland Revitalise Scheme was a “small-scale project that would allow for shop front improvements, new floral baskets for the area, seating and the installation of a community notice board”.

The meetingheard that a shopper survey carried out after the upgrade indicated that the “majority of respondents provided a positive rating of the area and agreed that the physical appearance of Greenisland had improved following the scheme”.
