Carla Tully, president of AES UK & Ireland, which operates Kilroot Power Station, was named Director of the Year for Leadership in Corporate Responsibility at the 2016 IoD Northern Ireland First Trust Bank Director of the Year Awards.

The award judges said: “Carla has created a culture where CSR is understood and valued by everyone in the organisation. She leads by example, frequently being ‘hands on’ in the company’s CSR activities.

“Carla has brought a strategic approach to the CSR programme, including employee participation and development, and the creation of long-term relationships with partner organisations.”

The 10 category winners, along with the winner of the IoD Young Enterprise Alumni Award, were announced at a lunch ceremony in Belfast’s Merchant Hotel.

Each now has the chance to be shortlisted for the UK Director of the Year Awards, which take place in London later this year.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Paul Terrington, IoD NI Chairman, said: “Stressing the importance to our local directors of demonstrating high levels of corporate governance and setting exceptional standards of leadership is at the forefront of the work which the IoD does throughout Northern Ireland.
