Astronaut's seal of approval for schoolgirl's art project

Anna Jones, a pupil at Acorn Integrated Primary School in the town, created a model of the Soyuz descent capsule used by astronaut Tim Peake on his return to earth.

A photograph of six-year-old Anna’s imaginative creation was posted on Twitter by family friend Gillian Craig, who used the social media platform to ‘tag’ Tim Peake in the post.

And to the primary two pupil’s delight, her artistic talents did not go unnoticed with Tim Peake himself one of the users who ‘liked’ the tweet.

“She was absolutely over the moon,” said Anna’s mum, Kerry.

“She went into school the next day and told all her friends and the teachers about it. She event made a wee astronaut to go along with it and called it Tim Peake!”

The model, which is currently on display at Anna’s school, took around five days to make. “She got a bit of help from her big sister Leah and of course me!" Kerry added.

“It was part of an overall space project they were doing at school that she really enjoyed - she really engaged with it.”

The real Soyuz descent module transported Major Peake back from a space expedition in June 2016.

He had been launched to the International Space Station (ISS) on board the Soyuz TMA-19M spacecraft in December 2015.
