New season of entertainment at the Waterfront and Ulster Hall

the New Year brings with it a bumper selection of entertainment at the Waterfront and Ulster Hall.

Glittering showpiece events are a Waterfront signature: Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton & Erin return on January 25 with a dazzling new show celebrating the golden years of the MGM musicals. The audience will be swept away by magical 19th century music during One Night in Vienna (Waterfront: February 1), courtesy of the Johann Strauss Orchestra and the Johann Strauss Dancers. Meanwhile Carmen (Waterfront: April 2) promises an evening of passion, romance and incredible music, including the Toreador’s Song - perhaps the best-known baritone aria of all.

Comedy Club at the Waterfront and Ulster Hall is home to the finest stand-up comedy around: Chris Ramsey (May 3) Owen O’Neill (May 4), Reginald D Hunter (May 25) and Rich Hall (May 30 - 31) are all Waterfront-bound this spring. Over at The Ulster Hall look out for Neil Delamere (February 2), Andy Parsons (April 4), Milton Jones (April 12), Russell Kane (May 4) and don’t miss Tommy Tiernan (Ulster Hall: February 3, 14 and 15 and March 9, 13 and 15).

Dennis Locorriere (Waterfront: February 16) boasts one of popular music’s most distinctive voices. He clocked up hit after hit as lead singer with Dr Hook in the Seventies and Eighties and has since forged a successful solo career. Music stars also taking centre stage include: Paloma Faith (Ulster Hall: January 20); John Prine (Waterfront: February 28); Clannad (Waterfront: March 17); Christy Moore (Waterfront: March 20 and 21); Simple Minds (Waterfront: March 28) and Ellie Goulding (Waterfront: April 6). Gary Barlow, Ronan Keating, Little Mix and Train are sold out.

A Belfast Children’s Festival highlight, Festival in a Day (Waterfront: March 10) is full of fun things for families with children to see and do, including the ever popular Baby Rave, Celebration of World Book Day, Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood, Creative Workshops and lots of free events. The Ulster Hall hosts a full day’s programme of specially-themed events and workshops to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8.

Joan of Arc (Ulster Hall: March 12) promises vintage world-class cinema combined with incredible live music in an authentic 1920’s setting. This screening of the iconic 1928 movie is accompanied by a live score on the world renowned Mulholland Grand Organ. Dress for the occasion in 1920s style!

The Ulster Hall’s highly popular Literary Lunchtimes return with more unique book readings and specially-themed events showcasing works by popular writers. The new season sees Ben Maier present An Imaginary Circus (January 23) and also features Poetry Picnic: Love Sucks (February 13) and Women’s Hour (March 27).
