A HUGE community effort is underway to raise much needed funds for those suffering from cancer.
Around 75 volunteers are manning a ‘Tree of Hope’ at Tesco, Minorca Place, in aid of Action Cancer and the Children’s Hospice.

Members of the public are asked to buy a ribbon for £1 which will then be tied to the tree.

Organised by Carrick Rotary Club with support from the retailer, both charities, Men and Ladies Probus, Rotary Inner Wheel and members of the community, the target is 30,000 ribbons between now and 23 December (10am to 10pm).

In a statement, the Rotary Club extended thanks to the staff and management of Tesco for facilitating the project and the volunteers for their time.

“We know that the money raised will go a long way to help Action Cancer and the Children’s Hospice in their continued support to families.

“We know that we can help support cancer sufferers throughout Northern Ireland give them hope in the knowledge that people care about them. With the community support we know we can make a difference to their lives,” the club added.
