A PARAMILITARY-STYLE attack in Woodburn estate has been described as "deeply troubling" by the chairman of Carrickfergus District Policing Partnership.
Councillor Stewart Dickson condemned those behind the incident on Monday evening of last week.

He added: “Incidents of this nature are absolutely unacceptable and people want a society free from violence and intimidation.

“The community will be shocked at this horrific attack and it must have been a deeply traumatic ordeal for the victim.

“I would appeal to anyone who can assist police with their investigation to contact them.”

The male in his 30s was attacked by four unknown individuals armed with bats and sticks shortly before 10.30pm.

He was taken to hospital for injuries including fractures that are not described as life threatening.

Anyone who witnessed the attack or who has any information is asked to contact detectives at Newtownabbey on 0845 600 8000.

Alternatively information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
