THE search is on to find Northern Ireland's healthiest schools and colleges by April.
Action Cancer and Centra are teaming up for the sixth annual Health Action Awards.
Last year, Woodlawn Primary School in Carrick was among those honoured.
The charity’s Health Promotion Manager, Emily Magrath, said: “Each year we see evidence
of a wide range of cancer prevention, healthy eating and exercise projects in pre-schools, primary and secondary schools and colleges. With Centra’s support we will celebrate the best projects this year through a revised Health Action Awards programme, which allows for schools to improve their activities year on year.”
Winning schools over the past five years have been rewarded for introducing healthy breakfast and lunch options, promoting increased fruit and water consumption, extra-curricular exercise programmes and cancer awareness initiatives. This year for the first time there will be Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for both primary and secondary educational establishments.
A prize of £200 to be spent on school equipment will be awarded to the highest scoring pre-school/primary school and secondary school/college in each of the five Education and Library Boards.
Entry forms are available from the charity on 028 9080 3344 or online at www.actioncancer.org
